Resources

Below are resources to help you make sense of and integrate what you’ve just learned about yourself.

Self-help books

The two I recommend most to clients are:

Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by L. Gibson

The Self-Confidence Workbook by B. Markway and C. Ampel

Therapy

If you feel you need more support, then follow your gut. You may have unearthed core wounds that a therapist or counsellor can help you understand, process and heal.

If you live in the UK, here are two directories that might help you find the right person to talk to.

Money Coaching

If you’re unable to achieve (or even begin) your money goals, or are curious to learn more about your money patterns, then behavioral money coaching can help. Working with another person enables you see your blindspots. I use a gentle, holistic process to help you examine your relationship with money from multiple angles so you can get to the root of the issue once and for all. This is where significant change happens. This is usually best if you:

  • Have tried to change a money behavior several times but nothing works longterm
  • Feel highly emotional when thinking about money (such as conflicted, unsupported, fearful, avoidant), and
  • Are comfortable examining your history to understand how it relates to your current behaviours.
